Two Grape Creek Middle School robotics teams will be competing in the State Robotics Competition April 30 in Hutto, Texas as a result of wins at the regional level. “The Robo Eagles” Team, comprised of Carsen Hunter, Scottie Tolbird, and Mia Jones, placed fourth at the Region 15 TCEA (Texas Computer Education Association) Intermediate Arena Competition held earlier at the Region XV Education Service Center in San Angelo. “The Pick-up and Clean” Team, including Lorenzo Longoria, Sierra Ziegler, Stockton Felts, and Peyton Lashley, place 4th in the regional Intermediate Inventions division. Both teams will be advancing to state competition in their respective events.
Other Grape Creek teams competing at the regional contest included “The Barbies”, comprised of Luz Martinez, Zane Durham, and Lucas Moyer, placing 13th in the arena competition; “The Aquaponics”, including Kaelyn Doucet, Watt Smith, Jenesis Martinez, and Josalynn Perez, placing 7th in the inventions contest; and “The Hamsters”, including Hunter Applin, Jocelyn Smith, and Billy Murphy, that placed 8th in the inventions contest.
The teams also competed at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Intermediate Robotics Competition in February where “The Barbies” took 1st place and “The Timmy’s” placed 4th.
